AUDITORIUM CONTROL MODULES

 

A wide selection of High Quality Auditorium Control Modules are available, to control any configuration with respect to Dimming Systems and Lighting Management Systems. Some of these Modules are discussed below:

 

 

 


The NS 2 - x and ns 2 - sx control Modules.

 

Multiple remote control panels or individual pushbuttons can be operated in parallel with the named functions. While the functions of the two devices types NS 2 - X and NS 2 - SX are identical, the two devices are distinguished, with respect to their interfaces.
 

THE NS 2 - X unit is suitable for: -

 

1. The control of incandescent lamps, high-voltage halogen lamps, low-voltage halogen lamps equipped with wire-wound transformers, fluorescent lamps with controllable electronic ballasts with 230 V interface, and neon lamps via transformers operating in conjunction with dimmer modules operating in the phase control mode, e.g. ALTOQUICK (AQ) Dimmers.

A maximum of 20 Altenburger dimmers can be connected.


2. Further, the device controls low-voltage halogen lamps with electronic transformers in conjunction with dimmer modules operating in the phase interval control mode, e.g. ALTOQUICK-O (AQ-O) Dimmers.
Here too, a maximum of 20 Altenburger dimmers can be connected.

 

The control for 1. and 2. above, is achieved via the built-in interface 0-20 V.


  

 

One or more AQ dimmer modules (up to 20 each) operating in conjunction with an NS 2 - X with one or more remote control panels, with the Functions, Brighter, Darker, On / Off.

 

 

THE NS 2 - SX unit is suitable for: -

 

This device makes possible the control of fluorescent lamps or low-voltage halogen lamps with electronic ballasts or electronic transformers with 1-10 V interface. The device controls directly, without additional auxiliary devices, up to 300 single or twin electronic ballasts or a maximum of 60 signal amplifiers, or, a combination of the two devices (one single amplifier in Luminaire form, is suitable for the control of 150 electronic ballasts.)

 

The control is galvanically separated from the main power supply. Consequently, electronic ballasts with a 1-10 V interface or signal amplifiers, connected to different mains power supply phases, can also be controlled.

 

The control of the above, is achieved via the built-in interface 1-10 V.
 

  
 

An NS 2 - SX control device in connection with max. 300 single or twin ballasts or max. 60 signal amplifiers with one or more remote control panels (with 3 functions.)

 

 

The control units NS 2 - X and NS 2 - SX have 3 identical pushbutton functions: -

 

ON/OFF: -


Activates the built-in latching relay to switch up to a max. 10 A (250 V AC.) Greater loads are switched via external contactors or relays. When the lighting is switched on again, the last previously set light level will be switched on. If the buttons BRIGHTER or DARKER are actuated in the OFF state, the light level will be modified after the renewed switch-on.


BRIGHTER: -

 

Lighting goes to the brightest position which has been preset as the maximum, as long as the pushbutton is pressed. The last set light level will be stored.


DARKER: -


Lighting goes to the darkest position which has been preset, as long as the pushbutton remains pressed. The last set light level will be stored.

 

BRIGHTER / DARKER FUNCTIONS: -

 

On both the NS 2 - X and the NS 2 - SX, the output voltage can be adjusted via two externally operable potentiometers between minimum and maximum. In this manner, setting a limitation of the respective maximum or minimum light level for the functions BRIGHTER and DARKER is possible.


Additionally, on both devices, the external adjustment of the fade time from DARKER to BRIGHTER, and vice versa, can be separately set for both fade times between 3 and 60 seconds (or according to requirements.)

The NS 6 WV control MODULE.

 

THE NS 6 WV unit is suitable for: -


1. The control of incandescent lamps, high-voltage halogen lamps, low-voltage halogen lamps equipped with conventional transformers, fluorescent lamps with controllable electronic ballasts with a 230 V interface, and neon lamps via transformers in conjunction with dimmer modules operating in the phase control mode, e.g. ALTOQUICK (AQ) Dimmers. A maximum of 20 Altenburger dimmer modules in the range of 1 .3 KW 1-phase up to 3 x 8 KW 3-phase can be connected.

 
2. Further, the device controls low-voltage halogen lamps equipped with electronic transformers in conjunction with dimmer modules operating in a phase interval control mode, e.g. ALTOQUICK-O (AQ-O) Dimmers. Here too, a maximum of 20 Altenburger dimmer modules from 0.7 - 2.0 KW 1-phase can be connected.


3. NS 6 WV also controls fluorescent lamps or low-voltage halogen lamps with dimmable electronic ballasts or electronic transformers with 1-10 V interface: directly, without additional auxiliary devices - up to 300 single or twin ballasts (for 2 lamps) with a ballast control current of max. 0.6 mA. The switching capacity is 10 A. If larger currents are to be switched, then relays or contactors are necessary. By employing signal amplifiers in the light fixture mounting form (Type KSV-S) with a controller output of 100 mA for approx. 150 electronic ballasts, the power capacity can be considerably increased. Up to 60 signal amplifiers can be connected to one NS 6 WV control unit (for the control of approximately 9000 electronic ballasts.)
 

The control for 1. and 2. above, is achieved via the built-in interface 0-20 V.

The control for 3. above, is achieved via the built-in interface 1-10 V.

 

Both interfaces are selected by means of a rotary switch on the front of the device.

 

The NS 6 WV makes available a maximum of 10 pushbutton functions: -
 

ON/OFF function: -


As a single button function or with separate buttons for ON and OFF. The voltage-free contact of the relay is wired to a terminal on the device. It is suitable for switching max. 10 A (250 V~.) Larger loads are switched via external contactors or relays. The internal relay can be actuated with one button for ON/OFF (latching relay function) as well as with separate buttons for ON and OFF. With this, central switch-on and switch-off functions are possible.


BRIGHTER / DARKER functions: -


On the NS 6 WV device, the adjustment of the fade time is achieved (approx. 3 - 60 seconds;) from DARK to BRIGHT and vice versa.

 

The functions are actuated on the pushbutton control panel or on individual buttons:

  • BRIGHTER: Lighting goes to its brightest position as long as the button is actuated. The last set light level will be stored.

  • DARKER: Lighting goes to its darkest position as long as the button is actuated. The last set light level will be stored.

  • Any number of remote control panels or single pushbuttons can be operated in parallel.

Scene selection: -


6 different light scenes can be set on the device. The 6th light scene can be set via an external potentiometer, applicable that is, if the 6th potentiometer on the NS 6 WV device has been adjusted to its leftmost limit (value 1.) The fade and rise times of 0 - 100% or 100- 0% is adjustable on the NS 6 WV from 3 - 60 seconds. The selection of the various light levels and lighting scenes, is achieved via remote pushbutton panels or with individual buttons. On ONE button, the selected light level can be made visible with a multi-LED display.


Storing the functions: -


The NS 6 WV stores the set light levels as well as the last selected light levels of the run in BRIGHT or DARK. Also, after a power failure, the last selected light level will be adjusted automatically and the load relay will be set to the previous position.


Partial functions: -


It is possible to use only a part of the NS 6 WV functions, for example when only the BRIGHT / DARK functions are required, or if only a part of the pre-selection functions are connected.

An NS 6 WV control device in connection with max. 300 single or twin ballasts or max. 60 signal amplifiers with one or more remote control panels (max. 10 functions.)

The 2 Modules described above represent only a small portion of a truly versatile system. There are many, many options available for use in Auditoriums and related Dimming Systems. These are virtually limitless in options and the scope of application.

 

Please also take a look at the Altenburger, AQ Dimmers, Dimmer Controls, Stage Lighting, EIB Systems, and Dali Systems. All of these products are related, and virtually any combination of these Modules are possible.

AQ1.3KW AND NS4 WV: -

 

AQ 1.3KW Load Module, suitable for 230V Incandescent Lamps, 230V Halogen Lamps, Low Voltage Halogen Lamps equipped with Wire Wound Transformers, or Inductive Loads.

 

NS 4 WV Auditorium Control, 4 Individual Preset Lighting Levels, with independent presettable Fade and Rise times.(3 - 60 Seconds.)

 

   

ALTOQUICK AQ DIMMER 1.3KW LOAD MODULE, IN CONJUNCTION WITH NS 4 WV DIMMING CONTROL.

 

 

INFRARED REMOTE CONTROL MODULE: -

 

IR-ST/S Infrared Remote Control Module, suitable for the Control of Most Altenburger Dimmer Control Modules. The Sensing distance between the Hand Held Transmitter, and Receiving Sensor is around 25 Metres. the Hand Held Transmitter keys would be programmed to perform the same functions as the Control Panels of the Installation.

PUSHBUTTON REMOTE CONTROL PANELS: -  

 

So, now that you've lost or misplaced the IR Handheld Transmitter, how are you going to switch or control the Lighting System?

Simple, you would make use of the Pushbutton Remote Control Panel.

 

Here is but one small sample of a Brushed Stainless Steel Panel equipped with Backlit Soft Touch Pushbuttons. This one would control the On / Off and Up / Down of Lighting Circuits 1 & 2, as well as the Up / Down Functions of the Stage Curtain, Projection Screen and The Window Blinds. DIMMER RACK CABINETS (DRC'S): -

Dimmer Rack Cabinets (DRC'S) represent a fully assembled, fully functional, Dimming Control System. Typically these would house all of the required Load Modules, Control Modules, Contactors, Latching Relays, Incoming Mains Connection Terminals, Outgoing Lighting Circuit Terminals. All circuits are Labeled accordingly, or, to Customer Specific Requirements. The DRC is supplied with a complete set of Wiring Diagrams.

In order for a DRC to be correctly quoted on and correctly manufactured, the required information for the Installation, would need to be supplied and prepared in a suitable manner.

The following information would serve as a general guideline for these purposes: -

  • Number of Circuits to be Dimmed.

  • Number of Lamps per Dimming Circuit.

  • Types of Lamps per Dimming Circuit.

  • Type of Control Gear being used.

  • What type of Controller is to be utilized for operating the Dimming Circuits.

  • Which Circuits which are to be controlled together.

  • Which Circuits are individually controlled.

  • Which Circuits are to be individually [Slave] controlled as well as grouped with other circuits to be [Master] controlled.

  • Must Individual [Slave] Circuits also include On / Off Control.

  • Must Group [Master] Control also include On / Off Control.

  • Are there Any non Dimmed lamps or Circuits requiring only On / Off control.

  • How many points of control are required to operate in parallel.

  • Are the Controllers to be recessed or surface mount.

  • Is there any room partitioning within the Auditorium.

  • Is the power supply to the Dimmer Rack Cabinet [DRC] to be single phase + neutral 230VAC, or three phase + neutral 380VAC.

  • Where is the cable entry into the DRC to be situated.

  • Is the DRC to be, wall mounted, recessed, or floor standing.

 

Whilst preparing the above information for the DRC, the following points would be relevant and would serve as further guidelines: -

  • There is no limit on the amount of lamps per dimming circuit.

  • Types of Lamps to be dimmed can be Low Voltage Halogen, 230V Halogen, Fluorescent, or Incandescent. [NO HID LAMPS! Dimmable Fluorescent Lamps are 18 Watt and upward.]

  • Lamp types can also be mixed [e.g. Halogen & fluorescent] on the same circuit under certain conditions [pertaining to the control gear being utilized; requires same dim interface.]

  • For Low Voltage Halogen Lamp Control Gear: These can be equipped with Wire wound Transformers or Dimmable Electronic Control Gear [DIM ECG’s] equipped with 1-10 V Dimming interface or with DALI Interface.

  • For Fluorescent Lamp Control Gear: These can be Dimmable Electronic Control Gear [DIM ECG’s] equipped with 1-10 V Dimming interface or with DALI Interface.

  • For Controller Options there are many types, here are but a few: -
     

    • Single Rotary Potentiometer.

    • Single Push Button.

    • Twin Pushbutton.

    • 2 Preset Lighting Level Control.

    • 4 Preset Lighting Level Control.

    • 6 Preset Lighting Level Control.

    • Light, Stop, Dark, + 1 Preset.

    • Infrared Remote Control.

    • AV touch Panels.

     

  • All of the above can also include On / Off per Circuit, as well as Master On / Off Control.

  • There are other many methods of Control; however, listed, are some of the more popular methods.

  • Any number of individually [Slave] controlled circuits can be also be grouped and [Master] controlled together as a single circuit.

  • Some of the Recessed and Surface mount Control Panels to be chosen, are larger than the standard wall boxes; in this case custom wall boxes would be supplied; inform of whether these required beforehand for installation during construction.

  • For partitioning, the partition control will allow for the Auditorium to be split and for each part of the Auditorium to be independently controlled.

  • Any Number of Controllers can be connected in parallel, to allow control of the lighting from multiple points within the Auditorium.

  • Cable entry into the DRC can be top, bottom, left side, right side, or rear, or a combination of these.

  • The DRC is a Unit Equipped with all of the required Components, Incoming and Outgoing Terminals and two complete sets of Wiring Diagrams.

  • Lighting Layouts if available, this would also be helpful.
     

Additional information: -

  • All that is then required on behalf of the Electrical Contractor is the external Cabling. This would entail, the connection of the Pushbutton Control Panels, the Power Cable, and the respective Lighting Control Circuits – nothing else.

DIMMER RACK CABINETS: -

Pictured below, is a typical DRC. This particular Model, is a Wall Recessed Unit, equipped according to Customer Specifications.
