Mains luminescent safety signs are different from emergency
luminaires. It is not possible to extend the "emergency lighting" function
to directional indicating signs. In fact, these signs are not meant to
provide lighting but to indicate exit routes, in compliance with national
and international Regulations on safety signalling which define the optimum
photometric characteristics to guarantee the highest level of legibility.
Directional indicating signs, according to European Regulations
(particularly the recent EN 1838), are designed to attract attention. It is
therefore not enough to put an adhesive legend on an emergency Luminaire.
This allows the installation to have a lower number of luminaires, resulting
in a reduction of installation costs with a highly aesthetic solution.
The new European Regulations (EN 1838) define the specific
characteristics required for safety signalling and the legibility distance of
the sign depending on its height, to guarantee its maximum level of
OVA has not only adapted its products to the regulations,
but has also included the reference value to obtain the legibility distance
into the technical characteristics of each article.
