SOME SIMPLE FACTS ABOUT DIMMERS AND DIMMING SYSTEMS:

Dimmers and Dimmable Electronic Control Gear, can provide up to approximately 70% savings in energy, when compared with Conventional Control Gear.

Good quality Dimmers and Dimming Systems can increase Fluorescent Lamp life, by an additional 3000 hours, when compared to Standard Electronic Control Gear with Fixed Light Outputs.

Good quality Dimmers and Dimming Systems can almost double the Lamp life of Incandescent and Halogen lamps.

Good quality Dimmers and Dimming Systems provide noiseless, flicker free, comfortable lighting.

COMPONENTS FOR LIGHTING SOLUTIONS: -

Dimming makes it possible to produce a wide variety of Creative Lighting Solutions. With fully Electronic Digital Control Gear such as Dimmers, Electronic Ballasts and Electronic Transformers, a wide range of Lamps can be Dimmed. By means of Precise Digital Control Devices, Control Modules and Sensors, individual and unique installations can be created. From simple Control with Rotary Potentiometers and Push to Make Switches, to the more complex Controls, using Building Management Systems, such as EIB, DALI and AV Touch Panels.

PERFECT LIGHT QUALITY: -

People receive about 80 % of all information via their eyes. Light gives us sight.

Therefore the better the light is suited to a particular situation, the more precisely information can be gathered, the feeling and mood absorbed. With Dimming Systems, different light sources can be Dimmed Digitally and therefore exactly. Dimming satisfies the requirements of optimal lighting level and adjusts for individual lighting needs. Dimmers, Dimming Systems, Electronic Ballasts and Electronic Transformers utilize logarithmic Dimming curves, that are set according to the requirements of the human eye.

The human eye is very sensitive in the range of 0 to 10 %, where irregular or sudden changes are uncomfortable. The unique concept of utilizing the logarithmic curve, provides a comfortable change between 0 and 100 %. Together with the Precise Control provided, the Dimmers, Dimming Systems, Dimmable Electronic Control Gear and Electronic Transformers, have the Technological means to provide perfect lighting quality.

ENERGY SAVINGS: -

With Dimming Systems, energy savings of up to 70 % are possible. Such high savings come from both the economical operation of the Lamp, and from linking of Dimmable Electronic Control Gear and Electronic Transformers to Daylight Sensors and Presence Detectors.

Through the use of high grade components, Dimmer Modules, and the associated Controllers have a mean service life of 200,000 hours within the permissible temperature range, and a MTBF value of 400,000 hours. In addition, Lamp life will be positively influenced by the use of Dimming Systems. Experience has shown that Lamp life increases from approximately 8000 hours to 15000 hours when compared to Conventional Control Gear.

Long term tests show that through the use of optimized warm starting of the Lamp (pre-heating of the cathodes) the switching frequency of the Lamp can be increased dramatically, when compared with cold start. The exact Control of brightness and power means that operation in the Dimmed Mode has a positive influence on Lamp life. The Dimming Systems and Associated Modules have comprehensive built in safety features.

 

ALTENBURGER ALTOQUICK (AQ) DIMMERS AND ASSOCIATED COMPONENTS:

Technical data of AQ Dimmers AQ-1,3kW, AQ-2,0kW, AQ-0 0,7kW and AQ-0 1,4kW.

1. All AQ Dimmers have a snap-on fastening device for DIN-rail OMEGA profiles.
2. The width of each housing is 105mm (AQ 1,3kW, AQ 0 0,7kW) and 175mm (AQ-0 1,4kW, AQ-2,0kW .)
3. Interference suppression: according to VDE 0875/N.
4. Circuit protection: through a separate MCB 6A / 10A (B, C, G, K.)
5. Power dissipation = 1,5% of the respective connected load (AQ-2,0kW) or 3,5% (AQ-0 1,4kW).
6. Maximum ambient temperature: + 45C.
7. Integrated rotary potentiometer with ON/OFF switch. An additional Rotary Potentiometer can be utilized for Control at a remote position (maximum distance = 100 m).
8. Up to 3 AQ-2,0kW Dimmers (= 6,0 kW) or, 3 AQ-01,4kW Dimmers(=4,2kW) can jointly be controlled with one Rotary Potentiometer, and without any additional Control units.
9. Up to 40 AQ Dimmers can jointly be controlled by a Master AQ S Dimmer Module, or any other ALTENBURGER Control Module.
10. Two adjustments can be made at the panel face of each AQ Dimmer with 2 trimmer Potentiometers to set the required maximum / minimum light intensity levels.
11. External Controls of the AQ Dimmers can be performed with a DC voltage of 0 - 20V. Adjustments to other Control voltages (e.g. 0 - 10V) can be made with the trimmer Potentiometers "min." and "max.".
12. Each Dimmer has a 22-pole terminal block, suitable for wire cross sections of 0.5 - 4.0 sq. mm.
13. The power section can be plugged into the socket of each AQ Dimmer and is fastened with a sealing screw. This enables a pre-wiring of the socket without the power section.
14. Improved contact plates ensure a reliable connection between Module socket and power section.
15. If several AQ Dimmers are being controlled jointly, they can be distributed (also unevenly) to different phases.
16. AQ Dimmers and AQ Remote Controls can be up to 100 m apart.
17. All AQ Dimmers and Controls have an interface to the ALTENBURGER Dimming Systems for higher loads (individual Dimmer Modules up to 3 x 8 kW/KVA). They are fully compatible.
18. The AQ System allows virtually any practical configuration in the field of Dimming Controls by varying the combinations of Control Modules.
19. Please observe that the AQ's are sufficiently ventilated through slots and holes in the distribution boards and that the Dimmers are mounted at a sufficient distance from each other.
20. The wiring diagrams for the AQ-0 0,7kW, AQ-0 1,4kW and AQ-2kW are identical with those of the AQ 1,3kW Dimmers (for wiring diagrams, see our catalogue "ALTOQUICK (AQ) Dimmers for Dimmer distribution boards").

ALTENBURGER AQ DIMMERS - ADDITIONAL CONTROL MODULES.

AQ S ALTOQUICK Master Control. Allows for the joint control of up to 40 AQ Dimmers, Be these of the AQ or TH Types. Can Control  Dimmers, even if these have uneven Load distribution across the Three Phases, or a mixture of the Different TH and AQ Types. All Dimmers then can be controlled by a Single Rotary Potentiometer, or with Several Rotary Potentiometers operating in parallel.
NS 1 Single Pushbutton Dimming Control. (0% - 100% - 0% = 7 second cycle.)
NS 2 Twin Pushbutton Dimming Control. Presettable Fade and Rise Times. (3 - 60 sec.)
NS 4 4 Pushbutton Dimming Control. Light, Stop, Dark and Preset Level. Presettable Preset Level. Presettable Fade and Rise Times. (3 - 60 sec.)

AQ E2 Double Wave Motion Lighting Dimming Control. Allows continuous Up / Down variation of 2 Lighting Groups. While Group 1 is at minimum Lighting Level, Group 2 is at maximum Lighting Level. Presettable Fade and Rise Times. (3 - 60 sec.)
AQ 8T Travelling Light Control. Allows step by step switching of 8 groups of AQ Dimmer Modules. After the last group is switched on, all Groups are switched off and the cycle begins again. Changeover switch for reverse mode. Presettable, step switching time period. (1 - 60 sec.)
NS IR Infrared Remote Control. Allows up to 5 Infrared Commands or Channels. Can be used with Modules NS 1, NS 2, NS 4, and NS 4 WV. Operational Range of 40 Metres. Kit Consists of IR Control Module, Receiver, Handheld Transmitter.
IPM Infrared Detection Control. The IR Sensor responds to movement within the operational area. This then activates the Lighting Circuits via the AQ Dimmer Modules or alternatively via one of the connected Control Modules (and Controlling the Lighting accordingly.) Operational Range of 16 Metres. (Switch off Delay 1,2 sec - 12 Minutes.)
AQ A Constant Light Control. The Module allows for Artificial Compensation of Light in conjunction with Daylight. As the Daylight portion of Lighting within a prescribed area decreases, the Artificial Lighting increases, and vice versa, keeping the Lighting intensity within the area at a constant level. Presettable Lighting Level, Manual Control, Auto Control. (Operational Delay of 3 - 30 sec.)
AQ NP Reverse Proportional Light Control. The Module controls the Artificial Light as a function of Natural Daylight. As the Daylight portion of Lighting increases, the Artificial Lighting decreases proportionally. Presettable maximum and minimum Lighting Levels. Presettable minimum and maximum threshold Levels. Presettable Fade and Rise Times. (3 - 60 sec.)
AQ P Proportional Light Control. The Module controls the Artificial Light as a function of Natural Daylight. As the Daylight portion of Lighting increases, the Artificial Lighting also increases proportionally. Presettable maximum and minimum Lighting Levels. LWS 1 Light Value Control. Switches a Single connected circuit On or Off as a function of available Daylight. Presettable switch On, and switch Off, Lighting Levels. Slider Switch to control delay Time for switching responses. (3 minutes or 10 minutes.)
LWS 3 Light Value Control. Switches Three connected circuits On or Off as a function of available Daylight. Individual Presettable switch On, and switch Off, Lighting Levels for each circuit. Switch On Level is 90% of rated or preset Switch Off Level of each circuit. Fixed Time delay for switching responses. (10 minutes.)
LRS Interior Light Value Control. Switches a Single connected circuit On or Off as a function of available Daylight, mixed with Artificial Lighting. Presettable switch On, and switch Off, Lighting Levels. Slider Switch to control delay Time for switching responses. (3 minutes or 10 minutes.)
LM 1 Lux Instrument Transformer Control. Required by most Building Automation Systems. Provides to the BMS, one Strictly Linear Voltage 0 - 10 V, as a function of Illumination, which is picked up by the Photo Sensors. 4 DIP Switch Selectable Control Ranges.      (0 - 1000 Lux,  0 - 10000 Lux, 0 - 20000 Lux, 0 - 50000 Lux, as a function of 0 - 10 V.)

All Dimmable Electronic Control Gear can then can be controlled by a Single DP - S Type Rotary Potentiometer.

Up to 60 Signal Amplifiers can be connected to any Module's 1 - 10 V Interface. Each Signal Amplifier Can then directly Control between 50 and 300 Dimmable Electronic Control Gear with 1 - 10 V Interface, depending on the type of Control Gear being utilized.
